On September 21st, Covestro announced an adjustment to the product portfolio of its customized polyurethane business unit for the home appliance industry in the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan) to meet the constantly changing customer demands in the region.

Polyurethane is an important insulation material used in refrigerators and refrigeration equipment. Covestro currently provides two-component polyurethane - a composite solution that combines synthesized polyether polyols and isocyanates - to customers in the home appliance industry.

Recent market analysis shows that most home appliance customers in the Asia Pacific region now tend to purchase polyether polyols and isocyanates separately. Based on the constantly changing demands of the home appliance industry, the company has decided to withdraw from the polyether polyol business in the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan) by the end of 2022. The company's product adjustments to the home appliance industry in the Asia Pacific region will not affect its business in Europe and North America.

Home appliances remain a key customer industry for Covestro in the Asia Pacific region. After implementing combinatorial optimization, Covestro will continue to serve as a reliable supplier and sell MDI materials to the home appliance industry in China, India, and Southeast Asia.

For the Asia Pacific region, Covestro will continue to focus on customer needs in the application areas of polyurethane composite materials such as automobiles, fan blades, pultrusion processes, and refrigerated containers, providing customized solutions and polyurethane composite products.
